Please join the Shorncliffe Trust, as we visit the battlefields and memorials of the Somme during the 100th Anniversary year of the end of World War 1. The Somme saw one of the largest battles that occurred during the War with over 20,000 lives lost on the first day of battle alone.
On this day, we visit the ‘Museum of the Great War’ in the town of Perrone; the Lochnagar Crater; and the memorial at Thiepval which commemorates and records over 72,000 names of the missing with no known grave. Our visit ends in the town of Albert with a visit to the ‘1916 Museum’ housed in the former crypt of the Basilica. A Shorncliffe Guide accompanies this excursion.
